Run by Sky Cubacub, Rebirth Garments creates “radically visible” apparel for people of various sizes, ages, gender and sexual identities, and physical (dis)abilities. My primary roles involved sewing together garments for online customers, assisting in fashion shows and photoshoots, assisting with print mixing and creation, and working on sculptural chainmaille pieces out of fabric. Shows included a performance at the Chicago History Museum and a residency at the Evanston Art Center. My category was Afropunk festival wear. For an easy, comfortable, and bold festival look, I created a kimono for my model Chance that we paired with denim shorts, a tank top, and boots.
