Rebirth Garments Internship
From January 2018 - May 2018, I worked as an intern at Rebirth Garments in Chicago, IL. Run by Sky Cubacub, Rebirth Garments creates “radically visible” apparel for people of various sizes, ages, gender and sexual identities, and physical (dis)abilities. My primary roles involved sewing together garments for online customers, assisting in fashion shows and photoshoots, assisting with print mixing and creation, and working on sculptural chainmaille pieces out of fabric. Shows included a performance at the Chicago History Museum and a residency at the Evanston Art Center.
Garments not specifically made by me can be attributed to Sky Cubacub, Compton Q, and Vogds.

The Chainmaille Process
Sky Cubacub specializes in chainmaille accessories and had me experiment with creating fabric chainmaille. This required cutting and handsewing dozens of individual fabric rings in various chainmaille patterns. Below are examples of chainmaille pieces I made during my internship that were used in several shows.

Custom Prints
Due to my experience with digitally creating prints, Sky Cubacub tasked me with rendering their drawings of Leigh Bowery and various trans icons into digital prints for fabrication.
I also had the fortune of working with Chicago leather designer Emma Alamo, getting to work a variety of leather accessories: cuffs, collars, and harnesses.
